Bringing home your brand-new baby is one of the most emotional and passing moments of your life. Those fingers, sleepy yawns, and the way they curl into your chest—it all changes so quickly. That’s where newborn photography comes in. But did you know there are two very different styles of Colorado Springs newborn photography? And the type you choose will completely shape your experience and final images.

Newborn Photographer Colorado Springs:

The Two Types of Newborn Photography

  1. Traditional Studio Newborn Photography
This is the style many people imagine when they think of newborn photography. It typically takes place in a photography studio and can last anywhere from 4 to 6+ hours. The photographer works with your baby to achieve those curled-up, frog-like poses and intricate setups with props, backdrops, and multiple outfit changes. These photos are often highly stylized and require a lot of time, patience, and posing expertise. As well as a hefty price tag.
  2. Lifestyle Newborn Photography (My Favorite!)
This is the type of newborn photography that I offer in Colorado Springs at Michelle Betz Photography, and let me tell you—it’s a complete game-changer. Instead of spending hours in a studio, I come to you. I arrive at your home the week your baby is born, capturing natural moments of your family in your living room, nursery, or even snuggled up on the couch. These sessions are easygoing, filled with love, and document your family exactly as you are in this loving season of life. At the end, I dedicate about 15 minutes to capturing individual photos of your baby—usually swaddled and peacefully resting on your bed.

Why I Love Lifestyle Newborn Photography

There’s something so unique about photographing your baby in the space you’ve lovingly prepared for them. The nursery you decorated, the cozy spot on the couch where you rock them to sleep, and the quiet moments in your bedroom. It all tells the story of your growing family. Lifestyle newborn sessions are stress-less, natural, and heartfelt. They’re not about intricate posing, but about capturing connection, emotion, and magic.

Plus, let’s be real—when you’ve just had a baby, the thought of packing up and spending an whole day in a studio can feel overwhelming. Lifestyle sessions let you to stay in the comfort of your home, which means more snuggles, more ease, and a whole lot less stress.

Which Colorado Springs Newborn Photographer Style Is Right for You?

At the end of the day, it’s all about personal preference! If you love the idea of posed studio images and don’t mind a long, detailed session – then a customary newborn photographer might be the best fit. I went this route with my first baby. It was a fun and unique experience. But if you’re looking for a comfortable, heartfelt approach that captures your family’s authentic love and connection, then lifestyle newborn photography is the way to go.

No matter which style you choose, the most important thing is documenting this short time in your baby’s life. Because trust me, they’ll never be this small again. These photos will be something you treasure forever.

Looking for a newborn photographer in Colorado Springs who will make the process simple, and full of joy? Let’s connect and create something beautiful together. As a Colorado Springs family photographer, I would be honored to take these precious photos for you.
