Things to Do in Denver with Kids – The Ultimate Family Fun Guide

Sister and brother lifestyle photography. They are snuggling laying on a bed.

Denver is a unique city to visit with your children. Whether you’re on a business trip and you decided to bring your kids, or you are visiting family close by. Denver is a big enough city that they have some cool things that are made for family fun. I am a Colorado Springs Family photographer, I live about an hour away from Denver. But my family ventures out to Denver often. We have stayed in a hotel many times in Denver for my husbands work. I have found the best things to do in Devner with kids.

Full transparency, its not the safest place for children after dark. Especially the downtown area. So make sure to stay in a nicer neighborhood on the outskirts if you can :). I highly recommend visiting Colorado Springs while your in town. It is a quick hour away, and has plenty of mountain adventures. When you visit, consider hiring me as your family photographer! There are so many gorgeous mountain spots close by Denver. Lets take those family photos somewhere beautiful! As a local, I (Michelle) know all the good locations.

My List of the Best Things to Do in Denver with Kids:

1. Downtown Aquarium

Okay, the first thing on my list that I love to do in Denver with my kids is the Downtown Aquarium. Kids can touch stingrays, watch mermaids swim, and even dine next to a massive tank full of sharks. Yes, sharks. Need I say more? I ALWAYS make sure to eat at the Aquarium restaurant. I actually like that part better then the actual aquarium, haha. Its a really awesome restaurant with huge fish tanks all around you.

2. Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Let’s be real—kids are natural scientists. They can dig for dinosaur fossils, explore outer space, and even watch an IMAX movie that’ll blow their minds. It’s hands-on, educational, and wildly entertaining, a win-win for parents and kids.

3. Children’s Museum of Denver

Ever wanted to see your kid climb a three-story mountain, build their own inventions, or create a masterpiece with their own hands? That’s exactly what the Children’s Museum of Denver is all about. This museum is actually really awesome. It’s the perfect place to let imaginations run wild.

4. Meow Wolf

If you’re looking for something totally out-of-this-world – this is the place. Imagine stepping into a psychedelic, interactive art playground where kids can climb, crawl, and explore mind-bending worlds filled with glowing tunnels, secret passageways, and larger-than-life installations. It’s like stepping into a dream—one where creativity knows no bounds.

5. The Butterfly Pavillion

I personally LOVE butterfly museums. This is a great one. If your kiddos love all things creepy-crawly and fluttery, then The Butterfly Pavilion is pure magic. Picture this: walking through a tropical paradise while hundreds of butterflies dance around you. Yes, please!

6. Denver Botanic Gardens

Who says gardens are just for grown-ups? The Denver Botanic Gardens is home to the Mordecai Children’s Garden, a magical spot where kids can climb rocks, splash in streams, and explore nature up close. It’s a peaceful yet adventurous escape right in the city.

7. Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre

For families who love the outdoors, Red Rocks is a must. Not only does it offer stunning scenery, but the hiking trails are perfect for little legs. Plus, running around on the famous amphitheater steps is really fun for littles.

8. Denver Art Museum

If you think art museums are stuffy and boring for kids, think again. This Museum has tons of kid-friendly activities, including hands-on exhibits and interactive workshops.

9. Denver Zoo

With over 3,000 animals and tons of interactive exhibits. You will have great adventurers, for sure. Don’t miss the Up-Close Animal Encounters for a chance to get face-to-face with some incredible creatures.

5. Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park

If your kids are up for a adrenaline rush, Elitch Gardens is the place to be. With roller coasters, a giant Ferris wheel, and a water park in the summer, it’s really fun. Bonus: there’s a dedicated kids’ area for younger kids who aren’t quite ready for the big rides.

Things to Do in Denver with Kids

Denver is one of those cities that you might need to search for some of the good things to do with kids. There are a lot of homeless people, and crime, unfortunately. However, a benefit of visiting Denver with your children, is it is a big enough city that they actually do have some really cool things to do with kids. As a Colorado Family photographer, I would love to take your family photos! Reach out and lets get your session on my calendar.
