Hello, lovely readers! Today, I’m thrilled to share with you a special extended family photoshoot that took place amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado Springs. This family wanted to get their memories captured while on vacation from Missouri.

The Setting: Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is renowned for its striking red rock formations, sprawling vistas, and clear blue skies. This unique landscape offers endless opportunities for capturing vibrant and dynamic photos. The park is open to the public, making it a convenient yet extraordinary choice for family portraits.

Planning the Photoshoot

Coordinating Schedules: Bringing together three generations for a photoshoot is no small feat. You need to coordinate schedules to ensure everyone could be present. It’s essential to pick a date and time that works for all, considering travel plans and other commitments.

Choosing the Right Time: We chose to have our session in the late afternoon. The “golden hour” provided us with soft, warm lighting that added a magical touch to our photos. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times for outdoor photography, as the lighting is most flattering.

Outfits: We decided on a color palette that complemented the natural surroundings. Soft pastels and earthy tones worked wonderfully against the red rock backdrop. Coordinating but not matching outfits helped maintain a cohesive look without feeling overly uniform.

Working with a Professional Photographer: Hiring a professional photographer such as Michelle with Michelle Betz Photography is important – knowing all the location spots in Colorado Springs is a game-changer. The right professional photographer will know the best angles, hidden spots, and how to manage the varying lighting conditions. Also having great rapport with the kids, making the whole experience enjoyable.

Incorporating the Landscape: Garden of the Gods offers such a dramatic backdrop that we made sure to incorporate the scenery into our photos. We took advantage of the towering rock formations, open meadows, and distant mountain views. Each setting added a different element to the album, showcasing the park’s diverse beauty.

If you’re considering a destination photo session for your family, engagement, maternity, anniversary or any other special occasion, I highly recommend exploring the beauty that Colorado Springs has to offer and reaching out to book!
